QP: Gandalf

Gandalf the Grey

(to Frodo) “A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.”

PIPPIN:  I didn’t think it would end this way.

GANDALF:  End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another
path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back,
and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.

PIPPIN:  What? Gandalf? See what?

GANDALF:  White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift

PIPPIN:  Well, that isn’t so bad.

GANDALF:  No. No, it isn’t.

FRODO:  I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

GANDALF:  So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

(to the Balrog) “You cannot pass! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, Flame of Udun! Go back to the shadow. You shall not pass!”

(to Frodo) “Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”

Random Fact:  *Gandalf went by many names, but he was called Olórin in his youth.*

Fortune Cookies

If you’ve ever been at a Chinese restaurant, you should be familiar with fortune cookies.  They’re little folded cookies with fortunes inside them and Chinese words and lucky numbers on the back.  The fortunes usually say something good or amuzing.  I once got one that said, “You like sports, horses, and gambling; but not to excess.”  I like sports and gambling, but I’m not so sure about horses.  That fortune should have been for my grandfather.  The fortune on the top of the picture I got today, while I’ve had the one on the bottom for a while now.  I’m not sure how many people actually eat the cookie or just go for the fortune.  My belief is that you don’t get the fortune until you eat part of the cookie, so I take at least a small bite.

Tell me what cool fortunes you’ve gotten in the comments section!  By the way, I’m not sure what to categorize this.  I put this in the Photography section because there’s a photo in this post, though I wouldn’t really consider it photography.  Also, a good chunk of my posts are in the Miscellaneous section just because I don’t know where to put them.  Tell me what you think.  Your input would be greatly appreciated.  🙂

Random Fact:  *Fortune cookies did not originate in China, but in California.*

QP: Albus Dumbledore

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore

QP is a new segment on JupiterCity and QP stands for Quote Profile.  It’s pretty self-explanatory — Each post I choose a different person or character and take a bunch of quotes from that person.  Enjoy!

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to
turn on the light.”  -Steven Kloves (screenplay), Harry Potter and the
Prisoner of Azkaban
, 2004

(to Harry) “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”  –Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to
stand up to our friends.”  –Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

(to Voldemort) “Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness.”  –Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

“That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend.  Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing.  Nothing.  That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped.” –Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

This is only a snippet of Dumbledore’s wise words, some from the books and some from the movie adaptions.

Random Fact:  *Dumbledore’s given names could be interpreted as representing the four primary divisions of the British Isles:  Albus may be the masculine form of “Alba”, the Gaelic name for Scotland.  Percival is a legendary Arthurian knight from Wales involved in the Grail quest.  Wulfric is an Anglo-Saxon name found in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and could be representative of England.  Brian is the name of the legendary Irish high-king and hero Brian Boru who defeated the Vikings at the Battle of Clontarf near Dublin.*
